The Broome County Childcare Expansion Collaborative is designed to expand existing childcare services provided by the Urban League in Broome County and is born from a partnership between the Broome County Urban League, the United Way of Broome County, and the Leadership Alliance, an informal merger of the Broome County Industrial Development Agency & Local Development Corporation and the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce.
Urban League will utilize funds for renovations to expand their existing childcare program hours and physical facilities to include 200 more slots for daycare, toddler, and afterschool childcare, provide tuition assistance for families struggling to pay for childcare, offer emergency housing and housing assistance for those not eligible for subsidies that are going back to work or are in employment training programs, and develop a training program for childcare staff in an effort to create sustainable and intersectional workforce development and childcare programming for Broome County families.
The Broome County Urban League Childcare Expansion Collaborative aims to expand access to high-quality childcare services in the community, which is critical to the development of young children and to support working families. By providing early education opportunities to children, the program can help them achieve school readiness and long-term success, while also allowing parents to work and contribute to the local economy.
The loan will allow the program to begin implementing the expansion plan immediately and start serving more families and children sooner, which will have a positive impact on the community as a whole.
The Broome County Urban League, associated with the United Way, has been one of the major non-profit organizations that provides social services in the county for over the past 50 years.
