The Maple Village Waldorf School (MVWS) is located in a quaint residential neighborhood in Long Beach, California. MVWS aims to create a compassionate and welcoming environment rooted in the traditions and the philosophy of Waldorf education. They endeavor to engage and nurture the whole child resulting in a balance of heart, mind, body and spirit.
MVWS strives to provide a full living education integrating academia, the arts and communal awareness in order to inspire, energize and develop creativity and a love of learning in each student. They place a high importance on contributing to and providing a positive focal point for the local community.
MVWS also provides an environment that helps usher into the world well rounded individuals – learned, inwardly confident, responsible, and self-motivated – with reverence for others and their environment.
The loan proceeds will be used to purchase and renovate the campus MVWS has been renting for the past 14 years.
The loan will be repaid with funding from student tuition and capital fundraising campaigns.
MVWS serves over 200 students from their parent/child classes through 8th grades. Their village mirrors the same richly diverse community of Long Beach, CA.
The eco-conscious school was founded on the premise that all individuals should be seen and honored for the unique person they are and their faculty takes every opportunity to ensure the curriculum reflects the children in front of them and the world in which they live.
They seek diversity in the stories they tell, what they read, what they cover in history classes, what social justice projects they encourage, and even where they spend time with students in community service.
Through the curriculum, they are able to weave a thread of unity and the feeling of belonging to the greater world in a developmentally appropriate way.
MVWS asked their families why they love Maple Village Waldorf School. Watch the short videos below to see what they had to say!
